For students entering grade 6 at Gideon Welles School
Due to new grant management STARTALK is only running a few pilot programs in the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, Glastonbury Public Schools will not host a STARTALK Discover Chinese program in 2022.
Students interested in studying Chinese at Gideon Welles School will be able to enroll in Chinese for the 2022-2023 school year without having to attend the STARTALK program.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, our STARTALK programs will have a strict limit of 10 students per class. All students will be expected to wear masks throughout the entire program. Mask breaks will be given during the program day. Temperature checks will be required each morning before entering Glastonbury High School. Parents should ensure that their child(ren) are admitted to the program each day before leaving campus.
An intensive three-week non-residential program that will allow beginning and intermediate students of Chinese to develop both speaking and writing abilities as well as the understanding of Chinese culture. The program will include interactive activities for novice and intermediate Chinese students, including classroom instruction as well as cultural field trips (field trips may be offered in 2022, following COVID protocols.) This program is sponsored by the Glastonbury Public Schools in collaboration with STARTALK.
Rising 6th grade students who are highly motivated and enthusiastic to learn Mandarin Chinese in an intensive program. This is a non-residential program for students who will attend Gideon Welles School and wishes to take the Continuing Chinese course in the fall.
Any child with an interest in learning Mandarin Chinese is encouraged to apply and register for Continuing Chinese at Gideon Welles School. Enrollment is limited to 10 students on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of the intensive nature of the program, students are expected to attend all sessions. The camp is funded through a federal grant and requires a three-week commitment to the program.
