Program Information

Health & Safety Information

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, our STARTALK programs will have a strict limit of 10 students per class. All students will be expected to wear masks throughout the entire program. Mask breaks will be given during the program day. Temperature checks will be required each morning before entering Glastonbury High School. Parents should ensure that their child(ren) are admitted to the program each day before leaving campus.

Who can participate?

The program is offered to Glastonbury students currently in grades K–5 who are in the English Language Learner (ELL) program and would like to strengthen their English language skills. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. The class limit is 10.

The camp will have three classes, divided by ability level and age. Placements will be determined after registration closes.

Registration

The cost is $25 for Glastonbury students and $50 for out of district students. This fee covers the cost of program supplies. Scholarship funds are available for those who are able to demonstrate need. See application instructions below.

Note: No refunds will be issues after June 1, 2021.

When

July 6 - July 23 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no class July 4th or 5th. Students are to not to be dropped off before 8:55 am and should be picked up promptly at 12:00 pm.

Transportation

Transportation is the responsibility of the participant. Students are to be picked up promptly at noon.

Behavioral Expectations

Student behavioral expectations are the same as during the regular school year. All school rules apply. Students are asked to bring their own nut-free snack to camp.

Attendance Policy

There is an expectation that students attend all sessions. We understand that this program is an extensive commitment. Families may have made prior summer plans. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with ELL Coordinator Debbie Howard or contact Rita A. Oleksak, the Director of World Languages / English Language Learning.

This program is available as an add-on to the elementary ELL program*. The program runs from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The price of this program is $250 and lunch is not provided. Students participating in this program will extend their classroom lessons through culturally appropriate crafts, stories and activities.

*The 2021 program priority will be given to students with siblings in the STARTALK full-day programs.

PLEASE NOTE: Registration is open to Glastonbury residents only until May 15th. Beginning May 16th, non-Glastonbury residents may register for these programs.
