SMS Spanish Immersion Trip

About the Spanish Immersion Trip

The Spanish Immersion Trip is open to 8th grade students interested in spending one week in Salamanca, Spain, learning about Spanish culture, while studying the Spanish language.  Students will attend four hours of language class each day, before setting out in the afternoons with local guides to explore the historic city of Salamanca.  Students will reside in host families with another Smith Middle School student.  This program will help to increase student proficiency in the Spanish language.

Eligibility

Current 8th grade students may apply to the Spanish Immersion Program in Salamanca, Spain. Students must be enrolled in a Spanish course in order to participate.  Students must be in both good academic and behavioral standing.

Current Status

Applications for the 2023-2024 Immersion Program are NOW AVAILABLE.  Applications are due on Friday, 9/22/23.

Late/incomplete applications will not be accepted.  The application has multiple parts, and all parts must be completed to be eligible for this process.  Students who successfully complete the application, will be invited for the next round of the application process, which is an in-person interview after school.

The Cost & What's Included

The cost of this one week immersion experience is estimated to be $2500.  Included in this cost is roundtrip airfare and transfers to and from the airports in both Madrid and New York.  One week of lodging with a Spanish-speaking host family, three meals per day while in Salamanca, as well as excursions and activities. 

Application Process 

Applications for the 2023-2024 SMS Spanish Immersion Trip  are due on September 22, 2023.

Completed applications should be submitted to Sra. Kisluk in room 1110 at Smith Middle School.

Next, complete the application. Parts can be done in any order, though we suggest doing the "Student Checklist and Guardian Acknowledgment" last.
